If I were to put my iTunes on shuffle, you’d be surprised by how random it is. ‘I don’t really judge music by genre, I just see it as music. How has your music taste evolved over the years? After a tragedy, you are pressured with the guilt of trying to move on - how do you get over missing your mother? I hope that the technical aspects of the short guide the viewer toward meaning.’ What I brought in was the structure of the narrative. That idea evolved into a short story about losing his mother at a young age, which was a very personal story for Kerby to tell. The founder, Kerby Jean-Raymond, wanted to do a story that represented a black family just being normal - with a story we can all relate to about a family being a family. ‘Pyer Moss is an amazing fashion brand with a point of view artistically, politically, culturally and socially. Tell us about the short you directed for Pyer Moss, Seven Mothers? What have been some of the most memorable music videos you’ve worked on?
